What does Veritect actually do?
Veritect is an incident-response platform. It helps districts and families collect evidence, assess suspected AI manipulation, verify student identity, document cases, and standardize takedown requests. It is not a social media scanning tool — it responds to reported content and makes the process repeatable.
Can it scan TikTok, Instagram, or Snapchat?
No. Veritect cannot access private DMs, closed groups, or proactively scan social platforms. Discovery is still human — a student, parent, or staff member finds the content and reports it. Veritect handles everything after that: verification, evidence, and takedown.
What biometric data is stored?
Student photos and 128-dimensional facial embeddings. Photos are stored in encrypted Google Cloud Storage (AES-256 at rest). Embeddings are stored in a vector database for identity matching. Both are scoped to the district, access-logged, and deletable on parent request or opt-out.
How is parental consent handled?
Parents receive a signed email with opt-in/opt-out buttons. Every consent decision is timestamped, IP-logged, and auditable. Parents can change their decision at any time through the Parent Portal. Opted-out students have their photos and embeddings deleted. No action is taken without affirmative consent.
What does "automated takedown" mean?
Veritect generates platform-specific takedown requests with the correct legal language, evidence references, and TAKE IT DOWN Act citations. For most platforms this means pre-filled report forms and tracking — not direct API removal. We track status at 24 and 48 hours and escalate if platforms don't respond.
How do you prevent false matches?
Every detection goes through AI scoring (face similarity, NSFW classification, AI-generation analysis, composite scoring) but requires human confirmation before any action is taken. District admins review every match and confirm or reject it. No takedown is filed without a human in the loop.
Who in the district runs it?
The Title IX Coordinator is the natural operator — they already handle sexual harassment reports. The IT Director or Registrar handles initial CSV upload. No specialized training is required. Veritect includes onboarding support and an AI assistant (Cam) that can answer operational questions 24/7.
What about nights, weekends, and summer?
Most incidents spread after school hours. Veritect is available 24/7. Parents and students can report content through their portals at any time. Takedown requests file immediately. District admins receive email alerts for new matches requiring review.
Is Veritect FERPA compliant?
Yes. Veritect operates under the "school official" exception with a legitimate educational interest. Every data access is audit-logged. Parental consent is collected before any biometric processing. Data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3). Districts retain ownership of all student data.
What happens when a student opts out or leaves the district?
Opted-out students have their photos, embeddings, and consent records flagged immediately. Upon district request or end of contract, all student data is purged and a deletion certificate is provided. Retention policies are configurable per district.
